Effective Leaders Make Others Better

Effective leaders want the people who are following them to succeed and get better.  Instead of a 'What's in it for me?' mindset, they have a 'How can I help you achieve?' mindset.  Sadly, too many people in a position of leadership are just insecure enough that they are hesitant to let the people with whom they work become too successful.  They are afraid that they will be surpassed and/or made to look bad.  This mindset is faulty and is, at best, poor managerial thinking.  True leaders understand that when individual team members succeed, the entire team succeeds.  Peter Drucker said it best when he stated, "No executive has ever suffered because his [or her] people were strong and effective."

The truly effective leader will make every effort to support, encourage, and facilitate the success and advancement of their team members.
